Best line of dialogue ever

May 4, 2012

I’ve been keeping a secret.  Well, not really.  I’ve told some people, but I’ve never broadcast it, willy-nilly, to the 10 to 18 people who seem to read my blog – god bless you, one and all.

The best line of dialogue, probably ever written, but certainly that I’ve ever heard, is spoken by the Kate Austin character, played by Evangeline Lilly, during season 5 of Lost:

“Since when did shooting kids and blowing up hydrogen bombs become okay?”

This line has zero subtext.  It says exactly what it means.  Even though, in another context perhaps, it would cry out to be spoken as a sarcastic question; it is spoken, by Lilly, as Kate, sincerely, passionately and without sarcasm.  The reason being, I guess, that a kid (character) has actually been shot, and they are planning on blowing up a hydrogen bomb.

I got such delight at hearing it.
